There are several reasons why men have difficulty expressing their feelings. Most of the reasons boil down to a cultural perception that when a man is emotional he is considered weak. Therefore men who are trying to portray an image of strength only see how they feel when absolutely necessary.
The majority of men usually have been conditioned to hold their feelings inside. Men usually learn this behavior from their fathers or other male rolemodels during childhood. Men are often instructed to avoid showing their feelings because it will be seen as a form of weakness.
Being weak is something that most of them try to avoid doing. Societal perception that emotional strength is desirable is something that most men believe very strongly. When a man feels that he is acting in a manner which is not going to be received well publicly he will often change his behavior.
Changing behavior to avoid the emotional confrontations is usually not in the best interest of most people. When individuals do not deal with their emotions they often will have problems in their personal relationships for a Friday of reasons. The formation of a strong friendship is based on emotional connection.
When a person is not capable of connecting with people emotionally can be substantially difficult to develop meaningful friendships which last a lifetime. People need social interaction in order to truly enjoy their daily life.
There are many reasons why men are encouraged not to express their feelings openly and honestly. The reasons usually do not have grounds in anything that can be substantiated as a logical reason. When people act based on public perception it can be difficult to change their views simply because they are not willing to deal with the behaviors they need to change in order to be emotionally satisfied with their life.
